Jonathan Franzen vs Stephen King

Con frecuencia se dice (decimos) que los comentarios en los medios online son irrelevantes, ofensivos, malos o directamente basura. Por suerte, no todos los comentaristas son así. Hay medios, como Gawker, que tienen algunos realmente brillantes. Es el caso, por ejemplo, de los lectores que debaten en los comentarios de este artículo sobre Pureza, la última novela de Jonathan Franzen, sobre quién es mejor, Virginia Woolf o James Joyce (a nosotros nos gusta más ella).

En ese mismo artículo (que lleva por título el explícito Jonathan Franzen’s Purity Is an Irrelevant Piece of Shit) hay, además, otro hilo de discusión que nos ha hecho especial gracia:  

Matt: I’m still nursing the theory that he is a version of
Stephen King from an alternate dimension that slipped into our reality
via a rift. In his home dimension, Franzen was a version of King that
actually listened to all the people that shit-talked horror fiction,
deciding to become a ‘serious writer’ and he never had substance abuse
issues. If him and King ever touch, they’re going to go all Ron Silver
from Time Cop.

River Kleenex: Though clearly
outlandish, and perhaps the result of mild psychosis; this theory you
have tabled seems entirely plausible, and I don’t hate it.

Scarlett O’Heretic: How do we send him back?

We’ll need a virgin, a freshly-slain goat, some black robes, some
candles, and a Black Sabbath CD (technically optional but why not have
some mood music).

Uno de esos casos en los que los comentarios son casi mejores que el texto al que se refieren. Aunque el artículo, pese al destrozo general que hace del pobre Franzen, es bastante divertido…
